Who we are... Sure Thing Selections, is a horse racing selection service that is the handicapping division of W.I.N. Systems. It was the next logical step for that business and the consolidation of his handicapping services that until the formation of this site had been spread out over two businesses. It is owned and run by David Gonzalez Jr. A professional handicapper with over 20 years of horse race handicapping experience. You can learn more about him in the handicappers profiles below. The staff he has surrounded himself with have been hand selected for their knowledge and expertise in their area or for a specific circuit. W.I.N. Systems
(Wagering Information Network) has been in business officially for 6 years.
Unofficially they have been providing high quality wagering information
since the late 80s. They still provide various services such as horses to
watch/avoid lists, speed figures, pace figures, power figures, horses to
watch/avoid lists, trip notes, race shapes, trainer profiles, track profiles
post position profiles, angle research, breeding research and jockey
profiles. If you have any interest in any of these services please contact
us for further details and prices. If you do not see a service listed please
feel free to ask we may provide but have as of yet not provided that
service. |

Now to meet our
handicappers: Dave Gonzalez Jr. Born in 1968 & raised in upstate New York he has been attending the races since his grandfather took him to Saratoga to see the greatest racehorse of all timeSecretariat. He often went to the track over the next several years with family members and friends enjoying the power and beauty of the noble steeds. By the age of 12, he had started to learn the art of handicapping, an ongoing process he continues to this day, modifying his approach to the game to stay ahead of the masses. His methods of handicapping rely on no one particular discipline. When he analyzes a card he uses pace & speed figures, trainer statistics, power figures, breeding, class analysis, track bias analysis and physical appearance whenever possible. It has allowed him to win several regional handicapping competitions, place in the money in over a dozen more and log countless top 10 finishes. He concentrates on the NYRA circuit but follows several circuits in depth. They are usually the Southern California & Gulfstream Park since they can impact more races in New York than most other circuits. His passion for the
sport is high and especially so for his beloved Saratoga, where he & now his
wife have been fixtures for many years. It was at this venue that he formed
the idea of this handicapping site and the guaranteeing of his selections.
He was highly offended by the tip sheet sellers barking out how they had 9
winners on a card while neglecting to point out that they picked all but one
horse in each race. He thought there was a better way and this is result. |

Lisa
Gonzalez The daughter of a casual horseplayer, Lisa was introduced to the game early on as well. The flat and harness tracks in her home area were the setting for several family outings and were always a source of enjoyment to her and her family. These early forays to the track made meeting husband Dave and understanding his passion for the game almost preordained. As a resident of Saratoga, she has become a familiar face at the historic upstate oval she has attended several other tracks and a few Breeders Cup events. Several of these trips involved watching the powerful Cigar race into history and providing her a first hand look at what the concept of class was as defined in the thoroughbred world.
Lisa recently
finished second in a handicapping contest at Fingerlakes racetrack, it was
her first contest showing but certainly not her last. She can be reached by
e-mail at

Roland
Thompson Originally from Boston, Roland started playing the horses at Suffolk Downs in the 70s and still follows that circuit very closely despite residing in upstate New York. He has an engineering degree from MIT which, is why he is a figure-oriented player and handicapper. The constant puzzles the game presents are what keep him coming back. Roland prefers and is very knowledgeable about the subtle class differences at these smaller ovals and how they affect a horses performance when moving from one level to another. He does his own class calculations that are based on the method outlined by James Quinn in his book Class Of The Field. His figures often point out horses that get overlooked by the masses.
He has only played in
one handicapping tournament and to quote him it was a blood bath that will
not be repeated. His bottom line is how he measures his performance and is
truer indicator of his actual handicapping ability. |
